My name is Gaëlle van den Dool a multidisciplinary artist based in The Hague (Netherlands).
My style is characterized by a certain clarity and cheerfulness that I transfer trough the use of different mediums. A big turn in the subjects of my projects was the passing of my father at the end of 2015. Since then, I have been researching subjects such as grief and death but also the other extremes such as happiness and appreciation.
In my work I try to create a safe environment where people can withdraw from feelings of fear, depression and sadness. There where most art is meant to break boundaries and to drag people out of their comfortzone, I want my art to be a comfortzone. In this world we are constantly confronted with an enormous amount of stimuli and information that there is perhaps a need for an environment that is poor of stimuli and that if there are stimuli, that these are projected more positively. I am aware of all the difficulties and dark sides of life, but I choose to visualise the other extremes in my work without looking away from the other side. For me it is important to emphasize that the positive always goes hand in hand with the negative. In my work I play with the childlike, carefree feeling and the dark heaviness that life entails.
