(Un)Comfortable 2018/2019

With project (Un)Comfortable I research how the pressure that young adults experience could be lowered. I do this by designing tools that respond to our feelings in body and mind. I focus on higher educated students between the age of 18 and 28. From different researches you can conclude that about 28.3% of this group experiences a lot of pressure and the associated difficulties. This pressure is mainly created by all the choice stress, the high urge to perform, increased internet usage and the growing amount of stimuli. One of the ways to decrease this pressure is by creating more moments of rest in the daily rhythm. In these busy times, rest is essential for your mental and physical condition. Taking this rest has become very difficult for people in today’s society. That is why I have created tools from my own experiences and observations through artistic research that can create and optimize moments of rest. In these tools I have incorporated a number of elements that respond to the senses through touch and smell, also they have an interactive element in them. By wearing or cuddling these objects, they give you a warm and protective feeling that stimulates the production of the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin creates confidence and gives a positive feeling to your body that can temporarily release the pressure that you experience. With my series of tools I create comfortable solutions for uncomfortable feelings.
